Fuel
Pricing at HPCL
Like
Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) and Indian Oil
Corporation Limited (IOCL), fuel pricing is transparent at HPCL
because of dynamic fuel pricing. HP petrol prices are reset on the
basis of the currency translation ratio and petroleum rates. HP
diesel prices are also reset based on the daily revision system. The
Centre can just impose excise duty but it cannot influence the
pricing of diesel and petrol. The revised HPCL fuel prices are
automatically disclosed at 06:00 a.m. every day across all the fuel
stations. HPCL fuel prices may increase or decrease just by a few
paise. If there is no significant changes in the crude oil overheads
and the exchange rate, HPCL will retain the same price.

HPCL
Petrol Prices versus HPCL Diesel Prices
There
have been several aspects that make petrol prices higher than dieselprices. The major aspects comprise local and central taxes, the cost
of refining, demand, etc.
Crude
oil is processed to extract different types of products, including
diesel and petrol. The refinery expenses incurred on petrol are
higher compared to diesel. The excise duty and the state levies
imposed on petrol are also higher than diesel. Therefore, the price
of a litre of HPCL diesel is lower compared to the price of a litre
of HPCL petrol.
